Dads Game

And finally…..

For the past few years, around 30 dads and some older lads have been gracing the Wandsworth pitches at BFC on Saturday mornings between 8.45 am and 10.15am. If ‘gracing’ is the right word. The dads play a round robin tournament between four carefully chosen and evenly-matched teams of about 8-a-side, depending on the numbers available.  After the dads' games the pitches are gratefully handed back to the kids Those dads left with enough energy stay on and help run the club, or watch their own kids play ... usually to a higher standard.

In the summer, some of the "lads and dads" play mid-week on a Wednesday evening, usually on a different pitch.  A pitch that’s a little closer to the pub.

There are plenty of conventions and lores but there is only one rule - no sliding tackles.  You also need to be old enough to know that if you don't play now you'll never manage it again.  If you would like to try out and maybe be added to the circulation list, simply email broomwoodfootballclub@gmail.com or speak to one of the year group coaches, or better still the dads game organiser Chris Fisher - the elderly man who shouts at the kids at the Broomwood kids at the start of Saturday play.  If you have a son or daughter playing in the club we will do our best to give you a game, although surprisingly we have a large pool of players ... a large pool of players, some of whom spend a long time on the injury list, which include hangovers and 'resting' from the previous week.

The very same "shouty" organiser, Chris Fisher, aims to have one or two mums' games every season.  Mums are encouraged to come forward and play.  That same dedicated trainer is available for one-to-one training throughout the year at very reasonable rates.
